MARCO FUSINATO E JOHN NIXON /
SOLVER
Opening Friday February 18 from 7 PM / PERFORMANCE 8.30 PM

IN collaboration with FONDAZIONE TESECO PER L'ARTE, PISA
The work of Marco Fusinato (Melbourne, 1964) is situated within the crossover between monochrome painting and improvised music (from a rock idiom). His practice involves the continued production of red paintings. The singular use of this color is for its association with energy and action. The paintings are produced as quickly as possible with no regard to any technical virtuosity or formal aspects of the craft. Fusinato's work is not about the rhetoric of abstraction but an existential engagement with reality. The paintings are produced in a free-form improvised manner with whatever is available and is economically viable. This overall logic is the crux of his musical output. Fusinato's sonic explorations comprise of improvised electric guitar recordings within a conceptual framework. The sonic equivalent of ideas that inform his visual practice on a primary level.

John Nixon (Sidney, 1949) project, EPW (Experimental Painting Workshop) is defined overall by is general ad-hoc approach to the making of art both in the expedient production of the paintings and in finding the various materials for the support.
EPW: Orange is a sub group of the EPW, using a variety of orange colors. EPW can be seen as a single monochromatic project comprised of a number of parts. Other colors (black, silver, dark blue, green, red, etc) are also used in the secondary format of two color geometric painting, but orange is always the pre-dominant color. The materials are the same as the EPW: masonite, felt, cardboard, plywood, etc.

SOLVER is the sonic collaboration of Marco Fusinato and John Nixon.
SOLVER is a guitar based experimental I free noise group evolving from the art practices of John Nixon and Marco Fusinato.
Due to geographical distance, ( Nixon / Sydney, Fusinato / Melbourne) SOLVER does not rehearse. Ideas for the recordings are discussed over the telephone. Recordings are done when either are in town in various locations and are limited to a group of ideas which are developed during that session.
Guitars and amplifiers are driven at maximum with no regard to the tuning or quality of instruments. Noise extracted from the guitar / amplifier set up is by chance.
The impetus for SOLVER has come from a shared interest in the spirit prevalent in punk and the D.I.Y. methodology. This attitude is an integral part of Nixon and Fusinato's overall practice."
SOLVER have released five 7" singles (two under the name SCALA) and one CD ("XYZ")
